Jimmy Kimmel Obtains Italian Citizenship Amid Criticism of Trump’s Presidency and Calls for Open-Mindedness

Acclaimed talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has secured Italian citizenship, he disclosed during a conversation on “The Sarah Silverman Podcast.” In this candid exchange between the long-time friends and former romantic partners, they delved into the current political climate of the United States and speculated about certain celebrities, such as Rosie O’Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres, who have contemplated moving abroad prior to President Donald Trump’s second term.

Silverman expressed that many acquaintances are considering obtaining foreign citizenships due to the unfavorable political climate. Kimmel confirmed his acquisition of Italian citizenship, stating, “I do have it.”

Kimmel, a persistent critic of Trump, elaborated on the current state of American politics, expressing dismay at its deterioration. “It’s unimaginably worse than anyone could have anticipated,” he lamented.

In an attempt to promote understanding and acceptance, Kimmel urged that those who voted for Trump should not be judged harshly if they have since expressed regret. He emphasized the importance of maintaining openness, stating, “The door needs to stay open. If you want to change your mind, that’s so hard to do. If you want to admit you were wrong, that’s so rare and difficult, you are welcome.”

In a playful jab, Kimmel joked about his own voting history, saying, “I can’t believe I voted for him three times!”

Kimmel has taken a break from hosting his nightly ABC show during the summer but recently made headlines when Trump commented on the cancellation of “Late Night with Stephen Colbert.” In a post on Truth Social last month, Trump wrote, “I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next.” Around the same time, Kimmel shared a photo from his vacation in Jackson Hole, where he and his family participated in an anti-Trump protest. The comedian held a sign declaring, “MAKE AMERICA GOOD AGAIN,” while his wife, Molly McNearney, head writer and executive producer of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” displayed a sign reading, “DON’T BEND THE KNEE.”
