Broward County Prosecutors Drop Battery, Domestic Violence Charges Against Quinshon Judkins; NFL Discipline Possible

Broward County prosecutors have opted against pursuing charges against Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins, who was apprehended last month on accusations of misdemeanor battery and domestic violence.

The arrest took place on July 14 by the Fort Lauderdale police department, following a report of battery allegedly committed by Judkins a week prior near the city’s airport.

In a memorandum detailing the case review, the assigned assistant state attorney outlined several factors leading to the decision not to prosecute. These factors included the delayed reporting, a scarcity of video evidence, and an absence of independent witnesses.

The memo stated, “Although the victim provided photographs showcasing sustained injuries, there were also videos from the same time frame that did not reveal any visible injuries to the victim. Furthermore, the injuries depicted in the photographs could be rationalized by either account of the incident.”

As a consequence, Judkins—the only NFL draft pick yet to sign a contract—may face league discipline under its personal conduct policy.

At 21 years old, Judkins was selected as the 36th pick during the NFL draft following his impressive performance at Ohio State, where he racked up 1,060 yards and scored 14 touchdowns last season.

The Browns drafted Judkins with the expectation that he would potentially serve as their lead running back after Nick Chubb signed with the Houston Texans. Additionally, Cleveland selected Dylan Sampson in the fourth round of the draft.
