Man Charged for Assaulting Federal Officer During Protests Against Trump’s DC Police Takeover
In Washington D.C., a man identified as Sean Charles Dunn was taken into custody on Wednesday, following an incident involving the alleged assault of a federal law enforcement officer. The incident took place on 14th Street in Northwest D.C. on Sunday night.
According to court documents, Dunn reportedly confronted officers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, labelling them “fascists.” During the altercation, Dunn is said to have approached an officer, shouted abusive language, and questioned their presence in the city, stating, “I don’t want you in my city!”
Subsequently, Dunn crossed the street but returned to throw a “sub-style sandwich” at the officer. Following this, he attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by authorities.
As per court documents, Dunn admitted to his actions during the processing phase, stating, “I did it. I threw a sandwich.” He has been charged with assaulting a federal police officer.
As of now, no attorney for Dunn is listed in court documents.
U.S. Attorney for DC, Jeanine Pirro, commended the arrest, stating in a video shared on X, “We’re going to support the police fully. So there, stick your Subway sandwich somewhere else.”
In a statement to CNN, Pirro added, “The police should not be subjected to physical abuse while performing their duties. I stand behind the blue.”
Commenting on the incident, the White House stated in a CNN report, “Assaulting a law enforcement officer is a criminal offense.”
“The Trump Administration will consistently support and protect law enforcement officers, and take action against those who seek to harm them,” said Abigail Jackson, White House spokeswoman.
The incident follows President Donald Trump’s order for additional federal law enforcement officers in the city last week, as he claimed that crime rates in Washington D.C. are escalating. However, city statistics indicate a decrease in violent crime over the past two years since peaking in 2023.
On Monday, Trump intensified his efforts by assuming control of the city’s police department and deploying the National Guard. A White House official informed CNN that the military presence is expected to expand later on Wednesday evening.
