Palestine Makes Historic Debut at Miss Universe 2025: Nadeen Ayoub Represents Amid Ongoing Conflict

Palestinian model Nadeen Ayoub, crowned Miss Palestine in 2022, is set to make history as the first representative of her nation at the prestigious Miss Universe pageant. The announcement was made by the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) on Sunday, confirming that Ayoub will compete in the Miss Universe 2025 competition slated for November.

In a statement, MUO expressed delight at welcoming delegates from around the world, emphasizing their commitment to celebrating diversity, cultural exchange, and women’s empowerment. Acknowledging Ayoub as embodying the organization’s values of resilience and determination, they welcomed her inclusion in the competition.

Ayoub will join contestants from over 130 countries and territories at the 74th Miss Universe final, scheduled for November 21 in Bangkok, Thailand. The MUO expressed eagerness to welcome Ayoub on the Miss Universe stage, where she will represent Palestine alongside participants from every corner of the globe.

Ayoub’s Instagram post on Thursday revealed her desire to be a voice for the Palestinian people. She stated that as Palestine faces ongoing hardships, particularly in Gaza, she carries the voice of a resilient people often unheard. Acknowledging herself as every Palestinian woman and child embodying strength, she expressed hope that the world would recognize their resilience, hope, and the enduring spirit of their homeland.

The decision to include a Palestinian entry in the pageant comes amid heightened international criticism of Israel’s conflict in Gaza. Since the commencement of the conflict in October 2023, at least 62,004 people have reportedly been killed in the strip, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The majority of these casualties are said to be women and children, as reported by both the health ministry and the United Nations.

As the conflict persists, an increasing number of countries are pledging to recognize a Palestinian state, with over 145 nations now supporting the call for international recognition. Recently, Australia, Canada, and France have announced plans to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly meeting in September. The UK has also indicated conditional recognition, pending Israel’s compliance with criteria including agreeing to a ceasefire in Gaza.
