Two Officers Killed, Two Wounded in Shooting During Utah Domestic Disturbance Call

In Tremonton, Utah, two law enforcement officers—identified as Sergeant Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada—lost their lives during a domestic disturbance incident on Sunday night. The Tremonton-Garland Police Department confirmed the tragic loss, with Sorensen having served 17 years in law enforcement and Estrada being a dedicated patrol officer prior to his tenure with the department.

Upon responding to multiple 911 calls from a residence, an initial officer encountered a gunman who fatally shot him. A second officer arrived at the scene but was also killed immediately upon arrival. Bystanders managed to persuade the suspect to surrender, and approximately 50 officers from various agencies attended the scene to secure the area and apprehend the shooter.

The suspect is now in custody, charged with aggravated murder. Meanwhile, a sheriff’s deputy and a police dog sustained injuries during the incident but are reportedly in stable condition. The identities of the wounded deputy and the suspect have not been disclosed as of this report.

Brigham City Police Chief Chad Reyes expressed his condolences at a press conference, stating that the fallen officers were “definitely heroes.” He further explained the risks involved when responding to domestic disturbance calls, stating that they often present one of the most unpredictable scenarios for law enforcement.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox issued a statement expressing sympathy for the loss of these brave law enforcement officers and ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in their honor. Tremonton—with around 13,000 residents—located approximately 75 miles north of Salt Lake City, has gained recognition as a popular stopover for vacationers en route to destinations such as Yellowstone National Park, Bryce Canyon, and the Grand Canyon. The city is also known as “Utah’s City of Murals,” featuring a walking tour showcasing 18 public artworks.

The tragic incident has left the community in mourning, paying tribute to Sorensen’s recent promotion to sergeant and Estrada’s dedication to serving the community. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
