Dawson’s Creek Cast Reunites for Live Reading on Broadway in Support of F Cancer, Led by James Van Der Beek’s Cancer Battle Recovery

Anticipation mounts as the original “Dawson’s Creek” cast reunites for a live script reading of the show’s pilot next month.

Starring James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams, and Joshua Jackson, this highly-anticipated event will take place at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City on September 22nd. The gathering is being held in support of F Cancer and Van Der Beek.

Van Der Beek, who publicly disclosed his diagnosis with colorectal cancer last November, took to Instagram recently to share a photo of the core four cast members alongside the opening lyrics of Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait,” the iconic theme song of the teen soap. Accompanying the image was the poignant quote, “If we were truly meant to be, then we will find a way back to each other.”

Joining the main quartet for this special occasion are Mary Beth Peil, Kerr Smith, Meredith Monroe, and Busy Phillips.

In November, Van Der Beek revealed he was battling stage 3 cancer, which he had been dealing with privately until a tabloid announced plans to publish an article about his health battle. He later detailed his experience extensively in an interview with People magazine.

“Dawson’s Creek” premiered on the WB in 1998 and centered around a group of teenagers in the fictional town of Capeside, Massachusetts, as they explored friendship, romance, and ambition both in school and beyond. Led by Van Der Beek’s character Dawson Leery, the show catapulted the main cast to stardom.

Tony-nominated Michelle Williams and “Dawson’s Creek” creator Kevin Williamson are among the producers of this live reading.

F Cancer is a nonprofit organization that aims to advance health equity through early cancer detection and prevention, while also offering resources for managing and coping with cancer as stated on their website.
