Deadly Collapse of Qinghai Province Bridge Over Yellow River Kills at Least 12 Workers in China

A catastrophic incident occurred on a railway bridge under construction over a significant Chinese waterway, resulting in at least twelve fatalities and four workers unaccounted for, according to state media reports.

Striking images from the Xinhua News Agency reveal a substantial gap in the bridge’s graceful aquamarine arch. The damaged section of the bridge, situated 55 meters above the Yellow River, now hangs precariously downward.

The incident took place around 3 a.m. on Friday when a steel cable ruptured during a tensioning operation, affecting sixteen workers on the bridge in Qinghai province, northwest China. Search and rescue efforts are currently underway utilizing boats, helicopters, and robots to locate the missing individuals.

The structure spans 1.6 kilometers (approximately one mile) in length, with its deck standing 55 meters above the river’s surface, as detailed by the English-language China Daily newspaper.
