Kansas State QB Avery Johnson’s Family Apologizes for Post-Game Brawl Following Loss to Iowa State

In an unexpected turn of events, the family of Kansas State University’s quarterback Avery Johnson has issued a heartfelt apology for a physical altercation that reportedly transpired between Johnson’s father and brother following the Wildcats’ 24-21 loss to Iowa State in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, held at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday. The incident, which quickly gained traction on social media, occurred after the opening game of the college football season.

In a joint statement shared by On3, Mark Johnson and Anthony Johnson expressed their deep regret for the senseless disagreement that escalated into an unnecessary physical altercation. They acknowledged the need to resolve their differences and accepted full responsibility for their actions.

The apology was extended not only to their immediate and extended family but also to Kansas State University, its alumni, and fans. The two men expressed regret over the incident, learned from it, and pledged to ensure such an occurrence does not happen again.

According to 247Sports’ Tim Fitzgerald, the disagreement between Johnson’s father and brother started at the stadium, which then turned physical according to witnesses. Efforts are underway to reach out to local authorities in Dublin for further information regarding the incident.

During the game, Johnson registered impressive statistics with 273 yards and two touchdowns. However, this marked the fifth loss in six seasons against their rivals, Iowa State.

As the Wildcats prepare to host North Dakota next week, Iowa State will face South Dakota at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa.
