Massive Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Recalled Eggs: 95 Sick Across 14 States – Check Your Refrigerator Now!
A significant number of 95 individuals across more than a dozen states have fallen ill since January due to a salmonella outbreak linked to recalled eggs. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed this on Thursday.
Country Eggs LLC, based in Lucerne Valley, California, has voluntarily recalled large brown cage-free “sunshine yolks” or “omega-3 golden yolks” eggs. Production at the facility has been temporarily halted. The eggs were sold in cartons bearing the brand names Nagatoshi Produce, Mishuo, and Nijiya Markets. Look for the code CA 7695 and sell-by dates ranging from July 1 to Sept. 16 on the affected cartons.
The CDC has reported illnesses in at least 14 states, with cases dating back between January 7 and July 25. Of these, 18 individuals have been hospitalized. It’s suspected that many more instances of illness may have occurred, and the eggs could have been distributed to additional states, according to the CDC.
An investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found Country Eggs LLC as a common supplier among locations where ill people reported purchasing or consuming eggs.
The recalled eggs were distributed to grocery stores and food service distributors. Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators for the affected eggs, discard them, or return them to stores for a refund.
Salmonella poisoning symptoms include diarrhea, fever, severe vomiting, dehydration, and stomach cramps. Most people recover within a week; however, infections can be severe among young children, older adults, and individuals with compromised immune systems who may require hospitalization.
