Prominent Ukrainian Politician Andriy Parubiy Shot Dead in Lviv – Investigation Launched

In a shocking turn of events, Andriy Parubiy, the former chair of Ukraine’s parliament and previously head of the National Security and Defense Council, was fatally shot in Lviv on Saturday.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with the President Volodymyr Zelensky expressing his condolences to Parubiy’s family on social media, labeling the killing as a “horrendous murder.”

Maksym Kozitskiy, head of the Lviv region military administration, confirmed that medical personnel arrived too late to save Parubiy. The General Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a special operation named “Siren” to probe the murder, with an unidentified assailant believed to have fired multiple shots at the politician before fleeing the scene.

Ukrainian member of parliament Iryna Gerashenko denounced Parubiy’s death as “terrorism,” describing him as a trusted ally and friend who was principled, decent, patriotic, and intelligent. Petro Poroshenko, a former Ukrainian president, decried the act, stating that “the enemy will never be able to kill the ideals for which… Parubiy lived and fought.” He added that Ukraine has lost a distinguished son, but his cause will endure as long as the nation continues.
