Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani Suffers Injuries in Car Accident; Faces Legal Woes Despite Trump’s Support
In a weekend accident in New Hampshire, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani sustained injuries but is reportedly recovering, according to his security head Michael Ragusa and the New Hampshire State Police. On Saturday evening, Giuliani’s vehicle was hit from behind at high speed, as per Ragusa’s statement.
Giuliani, who also served as President Trump’s former personal attorney, was transported to a nearby trauma center where he was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, injuries to his left arm and lower leg.
Prior to the accident, Ragusa stated that Giuliani had stopped to assist a woman who was a victim of domestic violence, and promptly contacted emergency services. He remained at the scene until responding officers arrived.
The New Hampshire State Police are investigating a report of domestic violence when Giuliani’s vehicle was hit by another. Three individuals, including Giuliani, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, as reported by the police.
In a separate statement to CNN, Ragusa confirmed that Giuliani is in good spirits and fully conscious. When asked about potential targeting, Ragusa described the incident as a “wrong place, wrong time accident.”
Andrew Giuliani, Rudy’s son, addressed the incident on X, expressing gratitude for well-wishers and describing his father as the toughest individual he has ever known.
Since the 2020 election, Giuliani, a longtime Trump ally who was praised as “America’s mayor” during the 9/11 era, has faced numerous legal and financial challenges. He recently pleaded not guilty to state criminal charges related to election subversion schemes in Georgia and Arizona.
Two former Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, obtained a $148 million defamation judgment against Giuliani for false allegations made against them following the 2020 election. A settlement agreement in January allowed Giuliani to keep his home and most valuable possessions, with the plaintiffs unlikely to recover the full $150 million awarded.
Despite these challenges, Giuliani continues to receive support from Trump, who described him as “the greatest mayor in the history of New York” on August 22nd when he announced that Andrew Giuliani would serve as Executive Director of the White House Task Force for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Trump appointed Rudy Giuliani to an advisory council within the Department of Homeland Security in June.
