Chloe Malle Takes Over as New Head of Editorial Content at American Vogue, Outlining Strategy for a ‘More Direct, Smaller, Healthier Audience’
In a significant shift within the realm of fashion media, Chloe Malle has ascended to the position of Editorial Content Head for American Vogue. This announcement was made earlier this week, following Anna Wintour’s decision to focus on overseeing global content for Vogue and its publisher, Condé Nast.
While Malle now helms American Vogue, she will continue to report directly to Wintour in her new capacity. In a statement, Malle expressed excitement about the rapidly evolving landscape of fashion and media, emphasizing her gratitude for Wintour’s continued mentorship.
Malle joined Vogue in 2011 as a social editor, and most recently served as editor of the magazine’s website. According to the official announcement, Malle oversaw substantial growth across all key metrics during her tenure, and played a crucial role in expanding Vogue’s wedding coverage, notably the June 2025 cover featuring Lauren Sánchez ahead of her marriage to Jeff Bezos.
Malle is also the daughter of Candice Bergen, a prominent figure from the television series Murphy Brown.
The print fashion magazine faces challenges as it navigates a competitive landscape marked by an abundance of fashion influencers vying for online traffic. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Malle articulated her strategy to cultivate a “more targeted, healthier audience.”
Wintour praised Malle’s ability to navigate the intricacies of the fashion industry, stating in a separate statement that Malle “has long been one of Vogue’s secret weapons when it comes to tracking fashion… Like the best designers, she understands fashion’s big picture, its role shaping not just what’s on the runway but the changing fabric of modern life.”
