Urgent Recall: Over 90,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Plug-in Hybrids Affected by Software Error, Risk of Loss of Drive Power and Potential Crashes

Over 91,787 units of the 2022-2026 plug-in hybrid electric Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs have been recalled due to a software glitch in the hybrid control processor that could potentially cause loss of drive power and increase accident risks, as announced by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Thursday.

This defect may result in an unexpected loss of propulsion, which could potentially lead to vehicle crashes without prior warning, according to a safety recall report. As of August 18, Chrysler, the manufacturer, reported no injuries or accidents related to this malfunction.

Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, has yet to comment on the matter, as of Sunday. However, Chrysler is currently developing a solution for this issue.

Starting October 23, affected Jeep owners will receive letters regarding the recall, and from September 11, these vehicles can be searched by VIN number on the NHTSA’s website. Alternatively, concerned vehicle owners can contact Chrysler’s customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for more information.

Last year, a separate recall was issued for over 330,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees due to a steering wheel issue that could lead to drivers losing control.
