Remains of Sept. 11 Victims Still Being Identified After 24 Years: NPR Report
September 11, 2001, marks a somber milestone of 24 years since four commercial aircraft were hijacked over U.S. airspace in the eastern region. These planes tragically resulted in devastating attacks that left indelible marks on American history.
One of these planes struck the Pentagon, located just outside Washington D.C., while another crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City were also hit by two separate aircraft.
Ongoing efforts to identify the remains of the victims continue in New York City, where three more individuals were identified last month.
