Actress Kelley Mack, Star of ‘The Walking Dead,’ Dies at 33 After Brave Battle with Glioma
In a heartbreaking turn of events, actress Kelley Mack, renowned for her portrayal in the post-apocalyptic zombie drama “The Walking Dead,” has passed away at the tender age of 33.
According to a statement shared on CaringBridge, Mack succumbed to glioma, a type of tumor that affects the brain or spinal cord, in her hometown of Cincinnati on Saturday.
An announcement on Mack’s Instagram account on Tuesday shared the heartrending news alongside a photo of the actress, stating, “It is with indelible sadness that we are announcing the passing of our dear Kelley. Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go.”
The industry and fans have expressed their condolences, remembering Mack as a “talented” individual and a “sweet soul.” Alanna Masterson, who also starred in “The Walking Dead,” penned a heartfelt tribute, saying, “What an incredible human. So proud to have fought alongside her in our final episode together.”
Throughout her career, Mack amassed 35 acting credits and five producer credits, as per the statement on CaringBridge. She was best recognized for her role as Addy in season 9 of “The Walking Dead,” Penelope Jacobs in season 8 of “Chicago Med,” and appearances on FOX’s “9-1-1.”
Mack also ventured into commercial and voice-over work, featuring in advertisements for brands such as Dr. Pepper, Ross stores, Dairy Queen, and Chick-fil-A, among others. Her passion for storytelling blossomed after receiving a mini video camera as a birthday gift at an early age, which led her to start acting in commercials as a child.
The statement shared that Mack was admired for her warmth, creativity, and unwavering support towards those around her. Her infectious enthusiasm and dedication to her work inspired countless individuals within the industry and beyond.
Mack completed her education at Hinsdale Central High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in cinematography from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts in Orange, California.
Survivors include her parents, Kristen and Lindsay Klebenow; sister Kathryn and brother Parker; grandparents Lois and Larry Klebenow; and her boyfriend Logan Lanier.
