NASCAR’s Points Leader Connor Zilisch Suffers Broken Collarbone in Celebratory Fall at Watkins Glen International

In an unexpected turn of events, Connor Zilisch, the current frontrunner in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with 823 points, emerged victorious yet again on Saturday at Watkins Glen International, New York. However, his triumphant moment was cut short when he sustained a broken collarbone while disembarking from his No. 88 Chevrolet car following the race.

During his attempt to climb onto the roof of his vehicle to celebrate, Zilisch’s left foot reportedly became entangled in the window netting. In a subsequent awkward fall, he landed on Victory Lane. Following the incident, Zilisch remained still on the ground before being surrounded by nearby individuals. He was promptly transported to the trackside medical center and then transferred to a local hospital via ambulance for further examination.

Zilisch later updated his fans through X (previously known as Twitter), posting: “I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone who reached out today. I’ve been discharged from the hospital and am already on the road to recovery. Thankfully, the scans for my head have come back clear, and I only have a broken collarbone to contend with. I am deeply appreciative of the swift attention by the medics and that the injury isn’t more severe.”

Zilisch maintains a significant lead in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, seven points ahead of Justin Allgaier in second place. This season, Zilisch has achieved an impressive six race wins, leading the series in this category.
