Multiple Shooters on the Loose After Deadly Gang-Related Shooting at Brooklyn Lounge, Police Hunt for Suspects

In the early hours of Sunday morning, authorities are seeking multiple suspects following a shooting at Taste of the City in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood that left three individuals dead and nine others wounded.

According to New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, 12 victims were identified from the incident, which occurred around 3:30 a.m. Initially, police reported 11 victims. Among those casualties, a 19-year-old male was found deceased at the scene, while a 27-year-old man and a 35-year-old man succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The remaining nine individuals sustained non-life-threatening wounds and were hospitalized.

The victims’ ages ranged from 19 to 61, with some believed to have been directly involved in the shooting, while others were bystanders, Tisch noted, emphasizing that this information is preliminary.

Taste of the City, located on Franklin Ave., offers food, cocktails, hookah, and entertainment nightly.

At present, no suspects have been apprehended, and police are now searching for up to four shooters suspected of involvement in the incident. Detectives discovered 42 shell casings at the scene from weapons of both 9 mm and .45 caliber. Police are currently investigating whether a firearm found nearby is connected to the shooting.

New York Mayor Eric Adams has urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. In an effort to prevent potential retaliatory actions, Mayor Adams has mobilized police and community partners to collaborate with friends, families, and victims.

The commissioner stated that over half of the city’s shootings are linked to gang violence; however, this incident remains an anomaly in New York, where shooting incidents have been on a decline. Tisch cited the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims for seven months into the year as recorded in the city of New York.

Despite the recent decrease in shooting incidents, this latest event follows several other shootings that occurred in the city this summer, such as an incident in Times Square earlier this month that injured three people, and a high-profile shooting in a Manhattan skyscraper in July that resulted in four fatalities.

According to data from the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 272 mass shootings in the United States thus far this year. The organization defines a mass shooting as an incident involving four or more injured individuals, excluding the shooter.

Interestingly, another shooting took place outside the same Brooklyn address as Sunday’s event in November 2024. A 28-year-old was transported to the hospital in stable condition after being shot in the back and arm, according to a police report at the time.
