ChatGPT Go Launches in India: Affordable Subscription Offering from OpenAI Expands Access to Advanced AI Model GPT-5
Microsoft-backed AI company OpenAI has unveiled an affordable subscription plan in India, priced at INR 399 (approximately $4.57) per month, as part of its efforts to expand in the country, which ranks second by user base among its markets.
Dubbed ChatGPT Go, this new offering provides increased access to OpenAI’s latest model GPT-5, along with additional features at a lower cost. The details were announced on the company’s website.
According to Nick Turley, the head of ChatGPT, ChatGPT Go offers ten times more message limits, image generations, and file uploads, coupled with double the memory compared to the free tier.
Turley shared this information via a social media post, stating that this move aims to make ChatGPT more accessible for users. He added that India will be the first country to benefit from the new plan, with plans to evaluate user feedback before expanding to other nations.
OpenAI currently offers two higher-tier subscription plans: ChatGPT Plus, priced at INR 1,999 (approximately $20) monthly in India and internationally, and its premium offering, ChatGPT Pro, available for INR 19,900 (approximately $200) per month in India and $200 globally.
In February, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman held discussions with Indian IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw regarding the country’s initiative to develop an affordable AI ecosystem. During the meeting, Altman expressed admiration for India’s rapid adoption of AI, highlighting it as an essential market for the company.
OpenAI recently introduced its GPT-5 AI model, receiving mixed reviews. Some critics noted a perceived less intuitive feel, prompting the company to restore access to legacy GPT-4 models for paying customers.
