Israel Launches Strikes on Yemen After Houthis Fire Iran-Backed Missiles for Second Time
On Sunday, Israel responded with air strikes against Yemen’s Houthi rebels who had recently launched a novel missile attack on Israeli territory. The Israeli military targeted a military facility near the presidential palace, two power plants, and a fuel storage site.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson stated that these strikes were retaliation for repeated attacks by the Houthi militia against Israel and its civilian population. More than ten fighter jets were involved in the operation, with the farthest target being around 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles) from Israeli borders.
A television station linked to the Houthis confirmed reports of “aggression” in the capital city of Sanaa. A member of the Houthi leadership, Mohammad al-Farrah, declared their commitment to supporting the people of Gaza and vowed to persist until the attacks cease, the blockade is lifted, and the food shortage in Gaza is resolved.
These strikes followed a previous missile attack by the Houthis on Friday. For the first time, a Houthi missile was reported to have contained multiple sub-munitions intended for detonation upon impact. No injuries were reported as a result of debris landing at several sites in the Tel Aviv district.
