Ryan Murphy’s Upcoming Anthology Series, ‘American Love Story’: A Lavish Dramatization of John F. Kennedy Jr.’s Life, Love, and Tragic Death Starring Naomi Watts and Paul Anthony Kelly

In the pipeline of captivating television productions, Ryan Murphy’s upcoming series, “American Love Story,” promises to delve into the life, love, and untimely death of John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife Carolyn Bessette. Scheduled for release in February 2026, this highly anticipated production is set to join Murphy’s esteemed anthology series, following in the footsteps of “American Horror Story” and “American Crime Story.”

The series will offer an intricate portrayal of a notable chapter from 1990s America, much like Murphy’s previous anthologies, which have tackled topics ranging from the O.J. Simpson trial to the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, among others.

“American Love Story” is expected to chronicle the romantic journey of JFK Jr. and Bessette, culminating in their tragic plane crash off Martha’s Vineyard. According to IMDb, the series will also highlight their lives leading up to this fateful event.

The cast for this production boasts a blend of seasoned and emerging talents. Naomi Watts, acclaimed for her collaboration with Murphy in “Feud: Capote vs. the Swans,” will portray Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, mother to JFK Jr. Grace Gummer, Meryl Streep’s daughter, is slated to depict Caroline Kennedy.

Paul Anthony Kelly, best known for his work in the 2010 television series “Body Language,” will portray JFK Jr., while Sarah Pidgeon, who has acted in shows such as “The Wilds” and “Tiny Beautiful Things,” will bring Carolyn Bessette to life.

Other notable characters in the series include Calvin Klein, portrayed by Alessandro Nivola, and Edwin Schlossberg, who will be brought to screen by “Angels in America” star Ben Shenkman.

In typical fashion, the production of “American Love Story” has attracted significant attention, with media buzz surrounding various aspects of the series, particularly Pidgeon’s costumes and hair color. The portrayal of Bessette-Kennedy’s distinctive style from the ’90s has sparked considerable interest, reaching a peak when her former colorist criticized Pidgeon’s hair color as “totally wrong.” Even Murphy himself addressed the controversy, stating, “Carolyn Bessette is clearly a religious figure, and it’s fascinating how inflammatory people can become.”

“American Love Story” is set to stream on various platforms in February 2026.
