World Leaders Converge for Massive Military Parade in Beijing Amid Global Geopolitical Tensions

In a significant international development, Chinese Foreign Ministry has announced that numerous world leaders, including North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin, will participate in China’s grand military parade slated for September 3rd in Tiananmen Square. The event is part of China’s ceremonies to honor the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II following Japan’s formal surrender.

North Korea’s state news agency KCNA confirmed Kim’s attendance, marking his first visit to China since 2019. The parade serves as a demonstration of China’s military might amidst escalating geopolitical uncertainties with US President Donald Trump reshaping American alliances and partnerships.

The event will see the presence of 26 foreign heads of state and government, as confirmed by Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei during a press conference in Beijing. However, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be attending a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Chinese city Tianjin this weekend, is not on the list of attendees for the parade.

Myanmar’s junta chief Min Aung Hlaing, currently acting as president following a military coup that ousted an elected government in 2021 and plunged the country into civil war, will also be present at the parade.

The parade, featuring over 10,000 troops and hundreds of advanced weapons, aims to display China’s burgeoning military power under the leadership of Xi Jinping’s ambitious program to modernize the People’s Liberation Army.

This story is still unfolding, with further details expected to emerge in the coming days.
