Cardi B’s Testimony in Assault Trial Highlights Sass, Wigs, and Pregnancy Discomfort

In the lyrics of her song “Money,” Cardi B proclaims, “Ten different looks and my looks all kill.” This week, in a civil trial in Los Angeles County, it appears the Grammy-winning artist has done just that, through a series of dynamic wig changes and candid testimony.

The case revolves around an incident involving Emani Ellis, a former building security guard who alleges assault by Cardi B during an encounter in a medical office hallway. At the time, Cardi B was pregnant and en route to see her obstetrician. The artist has denied the accusation.

Ellis is seeking compensatory damages, including medical expenses for a facial injury. The courtroom drama, live-streamed by Court TV and shared widely on social media, has revived interest in this seven-year-old case.

Cardi B’s outspoken nature, both on and off the microphone, is well-known to her fans, who are unsurprised by her courtroom demeanor.

Three exchanges during the trial have garnered online attention:

When asked about their interaction, Cardi B was queried about the language she used towards Ellis, specifically the F-word. Responding without hesitation, she testified, “I said ‘bitch get the f**k out my face. Why are you in my face?'” When asked to repeat the words to Ellis, Cardi B responded, “You want me to say it to her face?” Her attorney objected to this request, which was sustained by the judge.

Cardi B testified that she and Ellis did not have a physical altercation in 2018. “She couldn’t get a scratch from me because I didn’t touch her,” Cardi said on the stand during her second day of testimony. “She didn’t touch me,” she added.

When asked about her pregnancy, Cardi B had a quick response. “At that moment, uh, when you’re pregnant, I’m very disabled,” she replied, eliciting laughter from some in the courtroom.

During cross-examination, Ellis’s attorney questioned Cardi B about her hair color on the day of the alleged incident. After acknowledging that she was wearing a wig, Cardi B responded, “They’re wigs.” The lawyer replied, “Okay. Sorry, I didn’t know that. It’s a good wig today, then.”

Throughout the trial, Cardi B has at times appeared frustrated with the line of questioning. When asked about her emotional state during the alleged argument, Cardi testified, “I was more at ‘a high level of concern.'” Explaining further, she said, “Because I’m pregnant and this girl is about to f**king beat my a**.” The trial is set to continue next week.
