Monster $1.1 Billion Powerball Jackpot Surges Ahead of Labor Day Drawing – Fifth Largest Prize in Game’s History
The Powerball jackpot has swelled to an estimated $1.1 billion, following no winning ticket matching all six numbers drawn on Saturday, as per a statement from the Multi-State Lottery Association. This Monday’s Labor Day jackpot will represent the fifth-largest prize in the game’s history, according to the agency.
Saturday night’s winning numbers were white balls 3, 18, 22, 27, 33, and red Powerball 17, accompanied by a Power Play multiplier of 3. The odds of hitting the jackpot stand at a staggering 1 in 292.2 million, as stated by the association.
In the event of a Monday win, the victor can opt for either the $1.1 billion annuity payout or a one-time payment worth approximately half a billion dollars (pre-taxes). If they choose the annuity option, winners will receive payments over 30 years, with an initial installment followed by annual increments that rise by 5% each year. Conversely, the lump sum payout would amount to $498.4 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which operates the game.
Monday’s draw will mark the 40th since the jackpot was last won on May 31 in California. The record Powerball jackpot was a $2.04 billion prize scooped up in California on November 7, 2022. The longest streak without a winner stands at 42 consecutive draws, which took place in April 2024.
Powerball tickets cost $2 and are available for purchase in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
