Labour MP Clive Lewis Discusses Far-Right Free-Speech March in London with NPR’s Mary Louise Kelly

In an exclusive interview, British Labour Party Member of Parliament Clive Lewis discusses the recent controversial far-right “free-speech” rally that took place in London.

Lewis, a vocal critic of the far-right movement, addresses the concerns and controversies surrounding the event, which saw thousands gather to protest against perceived censorship and restriction of free speech.

The MP expresses his disapproval of the rally, stating, “The far-right has no place in our society. Their divisive rhetoric only serves to incite fear and hatred.” He further emphasizes the need for vigilance in addressing the rise of extremist ideologies, particularly within political circles.

Lewis also touches upon the response from law enforcement during the rally, commending their efforts to maintain peace while balancing the right to freedom of expression with public safety. However, he acknowledges that more must be done to counteract the growing influence of these extreme groups and prevent them from gaining further traction.

The MP concludes by reiterating his commitment to promoting inclusivity, unity, and respect in society, stating, “We cannot allow the voices of hate and intolerance to drown out those who stand for justice, equality, and peace.”
